The walk to the city centre from the cottage will give you the chance to admire many listed heritage buildings on Colombo Street. Your friendly host, Chet, has an honours degree in Landscape Architecture and is passionate about traditional buildings and his landscaping ideas. Designer Cottage is one of his finest collections of the charms of yesterday and all guests are welcome to view the ?Designer Village' and hear his stories about the cottage. Designer cottage was a pleasant find just 10min walk from where i was working, whereas other accommodation options required a taxi and were more expensive overall. Room was cosy, bathroom was small, but adequate with plenty of hot water. Breakfast was a treat having conversation with other guests & chet, a rare thing for me when away from home. Much nicer than hotel. Thanks chet, will be back. Designer cottage is a rare find in the midst of a busy central city suburb. Christchurch?s colombo street (main street) is only down the road but we felt like we were miles away from the hustle and bustle of city life. The rooms at designer cottage are cosy and homely. Our talks over breakfast gave us great ideas for planning our south island adventure. Thanks chet. We will be back some time. . Designer cottage is a unique and very homely bed and breakfast. We arrived to a very warm welcome from chet the owner, who took us for a walk through his very interesting urban village. Our ensuite room with private bathroom was very nice and cosy. The new breakfast room was great complete with huge table, great coffee, recycled materials and chets own artworks which added the personal touch. We will be back. . A rather impersonal experience. Bed and room were fine, but very small toilet/shower room off the kitchen was inadequate for number of guests and a mission to get to when people eating at the table. Eating breakfast amid the debris of others and bathroom smells was not ideal. No information available about off street parking or internet. Overall barely satisfactory. My comments have been discussed with the owner. |
